The imprint of the genius Salvador Dalí on the Costa Brava is profound and representative of his talent and personality. Many are the points where you can still hear stories about Dalí and Gala, where we can enjoy their works or understand their personality a little better by visiting some of their properties. The Dalinian Triangle is a route that allows you to approach Dalí like no other part of the world.
The route links Figueres, Cadaqués – Portlligat and Pera, passing by the obligatory visits to the Dalí Teatre-Museu, the Salvador Dalí House-Museum and Púbol Castle.
We started in Figueres, with one of the most visited museums in the world (according to The Art Newspaper), the Dalí Theater-Museum, designed and supervised in its construction by the artist himself, is now also the tomb of the author himself in a small crypt under the Theater-Museum. In this Museum, with important works of his career, each space is a work of art for the combination of paintings, sculptures and curiosidades.
Near Cadaqués we find Portlligat and there the Salvador Dalí House-Museum, residence of the great artist from 1930 to the death of his wife Gala in 1982. Visiting his usual work workshop is quite an experience, but you can also see the house where they lived and the different exterior spaces.
In the town of Púbol that belongs to the municipality of Pera, we find the Casa-Museo Castillo Gala Dalí, a medieval building that Dali prepared with care and special detail for the rest and refuge of his wife and muse, Elena Ivanovana Diakonova, better known as Gala.
A museum that in addition to allowing the visit to all the rooms, has some works of the artist, is the Mausoleum of Gala and the last workshop that Dalí used.
A gift of Dalí to Gala that she accepted but with a condition, that only went to visit it to l Castle with handwritten invitation, something that Dalí accepted with pleasure, since he understood it as the very principle of courteous love.
Everything in the Gala Dalí Castle House-Museum, is surprising, the Hall of the shields, the Piano Hall, the Gala room, the library or the attic with the collection of haute-couture dresses from Gala, signed by great French designers, the terrace, the romantic garden, a haven of peace full of winding roads and romantic corners, which houses the 4 sculptures of long-legged elephants and the pool with the busts of Wagner … and of course the Mausoleum.
If you want to complete the experience of the Dalinian triangle we recommend adding two other nearby points of interest.
Very close to Madremanya, you will find the small ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles or Santuario dels Àngels, where on August 8, 1958, the wedding was celebrated secretly, after years of relationship, by Dalí and Gala, they sought privacy and away of what could have been the most mediatic wedding of the time. Without advertising or interference, they looked for a remote place, which is, at the same time, an incredible viewpoint of Baix Empordà and Alt Empordà.
We also recommend visiting the Pla de Tudela, with one of the most breathtaking views of the Mar d’Amunt, there we can enjoy the whimsical geological forms that together with an incredible color combination, make up a unique landscape that came to inspire Salvador Dalí. Remember!
